Carbon Strategy
We are working aggressively to optimize our operations, pursue energy self-sufficiency and reduce our carbon footprint. In addition to implementing energy conservation programs, we are increasing the amount of sustainable power generated through cogeneration and the use of biomass. The result is a significant reduction of fossil fuel dependence and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Key Facts:
- Maximized energy recovery through reusing thermal power, reducing steam through recovery, increasing recycled water usage
- Minimized fossil fuel usage through rebuilding and closing boilers
- Maximized usage of carbon-neutral and renewable biomass through cogeneration and the installation of biomass boilers
- Track direct and indirect GHG emissions regularly
- Reduced GHG emissions by 66% for Fraser-owned mills from 1990-2008
- Working with environmentally minded regulatory and trade associations to design GHG measurement systems and cap-and-trade approach
